Sylacauga Parks and Recreation to host free “Trail to a New You” 5K at Lake Howard

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Sylacauga Parks and Recreation is inviting residents to kick off the new year with fitness and fresh air at the “Trail to a New You” 5K on Saturday, Jan. 24, at Lake Howard’s Sylaward Trail.

The free, 3.1-mile run and walk is open to participants of all ages and experience levels, from seasoned runners to casual walkers. Although officially timed as a race, organizers emphasize that participants are welcome to move at their own pace, making the event accessible and inclusive for the entire community.

The race is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m., with packet pickup available from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.

Participants will follow the scenic lakeside trail, enjoying views of Lake Howard while starting the year with a focus on healthy habits and community connection.

All registered participants will receive a race pack and goodie bag. Water stations and first aid support will be provided along the course. Medals will be awarded to first- and second-place finishers in school-age, adult (ages 19 and older), and senior (ages 50 and older) divisions for both men and women.
