CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – The Childersburg City Council held a public hearing on zoning property annexed into the City by a legislative act as approved and recommended by the Planning Commission. During the regular meeting, Ordinance 1154 zoned that property as an R-5 High Density Zoning District for the next phase of the College Park development taking the acreage involved to 28.22 acres and the new housing total to 272 homes.
Also gaining approval was Ordinance 1155, permitting the execution of a tax abatement agreement with Long Lewis of Coosa Valley, LLC. Public hearings on the proposal were held as part of Council meetings on Oct. 21 and Nov. 4 of this year.
The Council approved Resolution 2025-29 to authorize Mayor Ken Wesson in his capacity as LRA Chairman to execute a purchase sales agreement for, give or take, 487+/- acres in the Industrial Park upon review and approval of the final agreement.
The following people and terms were approved for the Park and Recreation Advisory Board: Adam Jordan (1/18/2030); Shaquita Swain (2/16/2029); Brandon Rogers (9/21/2030); Malley Limbaugh (9/21/2030); Howard Smith (1/18/2030); Shaddix Murphy (8/18/2030); and John Mark Freeman (11/15/2026).
The Council approved expenses for elected officials to attend the Alabama League of Municipalities Advocacy Day at Embassy Suites in Montgomery on Jan. 21, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a reception to follow. Registration is $195 per official, along with mileage reimbursement.
Approval was granted for Advanced Integrated Security to install a Yealink telephone system at the Childersburg Fire Department that will match the linked system for other City departments. The cost is $1,882.
The Council approved a pair of personnel matters. James Woods, Jr. will perform cleaning maintenance of transportation vehicles at a cost of $70 per vehicle as needed. Kacey House will serve as a part-time temporary library assistant at a rate of $8.50 per hour.
Approval was given to advertise with the Childersburg Tip Off Club in the amount of $300.
The Council approved payment of invoices in the amount of $129,387.86.
Approval was given for a motion to start the new Council schedule a month earlier than previously announced. The December meeting will be held at 11:00 a.m. to avoid a conflict with the Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Festivities at 6:00 p.m. that evening.
