MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Fayetteville High School, Winterboro High School, and the Alabama School for the Deaf and Blind were among 114 schools statewide recognized by the Alabama High School Athletic Association for exemplary conduct during the 2024-25 school year.

The three Talladega County schools earned Sportsmanship School status after completing the year with no fines or ejections in any sanctioned athletic contest. They were honored during the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s Sportsmanship Schools Luncheon held Friday, July 25 at the Montgomery Renaissance Hotel and Convention Center.

“Going through an entire school year without an ejection in any contest is a major accomplishment,” said AHSAA Executive Director Heath Harmon. “We are proud of our schools who reached this milestone in 2024-25. These schools show all out schools that reaching this goal is possible.”

The Alabama School for the Blind continues to lead the state with 16 total years of Sportsmanship School recognition, including 13 consecutive years.

This year’s total marks an increase of eight schools over last year and 27 more than in 2022-23. Since the program’s inception, 418 high schools have collectively reached Sportsmanship status 1,855 times.

Ten schools were selected to receive $1,000 grants through the Alabama High School Athletic Directors and Coaches Association, bringing total awards to $142,000 since the initiative began. None of this year’s grant recipients were from Talladega County.
