Winterboro’s Jamari Nicks drawing major SEC interest after breakout season

SHARE NOW

ALPINE, Ala. – Jamari Nicks may not be the biggest player on the field, but the Winterboro Bulldog is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after recruits in Alabama – and now across the SEC.

The 5-foot-10, 165-pound rising sophomore has already picked up scholarship offers from Tennessee and Arkansas. College recruiters are taking note of his explosive playmaking ability on both sides of the ball and on special teams.

Nicks, who lines up at wide receiver, defensive back, and punt returner for the Bulldogs, racked up 1,204 all-purpose yards and 16 total touchdowns last season. He found the end zone in all three phases – offense, defense and special teams – thanks to his blazing speed and elite agility.

While most of the attention has centered on his dynamic offensive potential, college coaches aren’t overlooking his contributions on defense. Jacksonville State and Troy are among those impressed with his ball-hawking skills in the secondary, with the Trojans being the third school which has offered Nicks.

Nicks’s recruitment gained even more steam following his performance at the Under Armour camp in Nashville this past March, where he stood out among elite competition. His ability to shift direction and create separation against top-tier defenders has made him a hot name amongst the Class of 2028.

Despite his rising profile, Nicks remains grounded in his Alabama roots. He has expressed a desire to earn an offer from in-state program Auburn, but admits he grew up a fan of the Alabama. A scholarship offer from the Crimson Tide would be a major factor in his decision-making process, according to those close to his recruitment.

For now, Nicks continues to let his play do the talking – eluding tacklers, locking down opposing receivers, and flipping field position at a moment’s notice.

With SEC schools already calling, it’s only a matter of time before more Power Five programs join the race for one of Alabama and Talladega County’s most electrifying high school talents.
