CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – A good crowd was building before a heavy storm passed through TigerFest 2024 at the Childersburg High School (CHS) Stadium on Friday evening, Aug. 2, but not before the crowd got to experience at least a bit of the event’s purposes.
Mayor Ken Wesson was one the earliest arrivals to TigerFest.
“It’s a great back-to-school event for students and the community,” said Mayor Wesson. “For me, it’s a chance to celebrate so many of our school’s sports programs. Most all of them are represented here, along with our rec department, building anticipation for the new school year.”
CHS Athletic Director Johnny Johnson echoed those sentiments, saying, “It’s great to see the crowd out here, even if they are having to head back to their vehicles because of the storm. It’s my hope that they’ll come back to support our teams, our cheerleaders, and our band this season.”
The local Elks Lodge was handing out free school supplies during the event.
Childersburg Middle School and Childersburg Elementary School were represented with booths, along with athletic squads, community vendors, and more supporters of the school system.
