SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Sylacauga Little League will be kicking off its 68th season on Saturday.
The opening ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. with Charlie Vick throwing the first pitch. Vick and his family have been a staple of the little league program.
This season is also being dedicated to long-time volunteer, coach, and board member, Jamie Franklin.
Franklin is currently fighting colon cancer and about to start chemotherapy. He also recently had surgery and is still managing a team. He spends countless hours working with players and has left an impact on many lives.
“We have such a wonderful group of players, parents, coaches, volunteers and board members this year,” said SLLB President, Laura Heath. “I am grateful for the opportunity to get to serve as President of Sylacauga Little League Baseball.”
Many volunteers worked tirelessly during the offseason to get the field ready for this special season. When you glance into the outfield, you will notice a newly installed digital scoreboard, donated by Coca-Cola.
