MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Victims of Crime and Leniency, also known as VOCAL, is pleased to announce support for the “Safe Alabama” package announced by Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey.
During her State of the State address, Gov. Ivey unveiled the public safety package. She stated, “Working together, we will create a safer Alabama.”
VOCAL’s 43-year mission of advocacy for crime victims across Alabama aligns with the package of bills proposed by the Governor.
Victims of Crime and Leniency are a strong supporter of law enforcement in Alabama. Wanda Miller, Executive Director, adds, “Those who serve and protect us every day, often at a personal cost, deserve every support that we can offer them.”
Gov. Ivey focuses on legislation that will assist law enforcement and prosecutors in their fight against gun violence and the senseless injury and loss of life across Alabama.
“Every day, we speak with victims whose lives have been destroyed by violent crime,” Miller shared. “This legislation directed at gun violence and policy is an important step in protecting our citizens. We must never accept violence as our normal existence.”
The legislative package also includes legal protections for law enforcement along with a dependent scholarship program for law enforcement families.
VOCAL will follow the progress of this legislation along with thousands of members across the state.
“Our membership knows too well the price of violence. They are asking for our elected officials in Montgomery to back the reforms in this legislation,” offered Miller. “If we are soft on crime, more Alabamians will pay that price.”
