MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs (ADVA) formally announced their 2024 campaign, “Operation We Remember,” at a news conference at the Alabama State Capitol on Wednesday, Sept. 4.
“Operation We Remember” is a suicide prevention awareness campaign for veterans that partners with universities, community colleges, high schools, and government agencies across the state to honor and remember the Alabama Veterans who have lost their lives to suicide.
The 2024 campaign includes a display of 147 American flags to honor and remember the 147 Veterans in Alabama who died by suicide in 2022.
Wednesday’s news conference featured ADVA Commissioner Kent Davis, Alabama National Guard Brig. Gen. Jeffery M. Smith, and Alabama State Representative Kenneth Paschal, who each provided information and insight into efforts of their respective organizations and how those efforts are positively impacting Alabama’s Veterans suicide rate.
Following the news conference, attendees were invited to participate in completing the flag display across the street from the Alabama State Capitol.
