Possible human remains found at campsite east of Sylacauga

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Talladega County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed finding possible human remains in a wooded area off Alabama Highway 148 east of Sylacauga.

On Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 23, a hunter reported a suspicious campsite near the Talladega-Clay County line. Deputies responded, secured the scene overnight, and returned at daylight this morning with Talladega County Coroner Shadix Murphy to process the scene and recover the remains.

The remains will be transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for identification and to determine the cause and manner of death.
