SHARE NOW

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – A twin engine plane crashed in a field west of Conn Equipment off U.S. Highway 280 at approximately 5:40 p.m. on Saturday. According to responders, a male pilot was the sole occupant and was transported to UAB Hospital in Birmingham with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.

The Sylacauga and Childersburg Fire Departments, Sylacauga Police Department, and Talladega County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 9-1-1 call, and troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division in conjunction with Sheriff’s Office deputies assisted in securing the scene.

The location of the crash was just inside the Sylacauga city limits, five miles north of the Sylacauga Municipal Airport, in an area only recently annexed. The pilot, reportedly from Oregon, was said to have experienced engine problems southeast of Birmingham.

Childersburg Fire Department personnel remained at the site until the Federal Aviation Administration representatives arrived to begin an investigation.
