CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – Even though the deadline had technically passed, the Childersburg City Council approved Resolution 2025-30, which allows them to join in the Simplified Sellers Use Tax (SSUT) litigation as a defendant. The litigation over the SSUT reflects growing frustration among Alabama’s larger cities filing suit to reform the tax system for a larger share of internet sales revenue. It is opposed by the Association of County Commissioners and a growing number of smaller cities.
Resolution 2025-31 gave approval for Goodwyn, Mills, and Cawood to perform engineering services for the Alabama Industrial Access Road grant project in the Childersburg Industrial Park. It authorizes Mayor Ken Wesson to execute the required grant paperwork and contracts.
The Council approved the 2025-26 Liability Insurance premium to AMIC-Legacy Insurance for renewal of the City’s policy. With the new Police Judicial Building and other new facilities, the policy covers more city properties, with an increased cost of 15 percent for a total of $326,499.
Approval was given for three training sessions for Police Chief Kevin Koss to attend the following:
2026 Servant Leadership Training in Fort Payne on June 10-11, 2026, to include two-night lodging, two-day per diem, and use of a City vehicle
2026 Chief’s Summer Conference in Orange Beach on Aug. 3-5, 2026, to include registration, three-night lodging, per diem, and use of City vehicle
2026 Human Relations Training in Florence on Nov. 5-6, 2026, to include two-night lodging, per diem, and use of a City vehicle
The Council also approved the required annual K-9 certification for Sgt. Brandon Hughes in Thorsby on Jan. 5-9, 2026 to include registration and use of a City vehicle with no lodging.
Approval was given for Brad Logan to attend the 2026 ARPA State Conference in Orange Beach on Feb. 1-3, 2026 to include registration, five-night lodging, three-day per diem, and mileage reimbursement.
The Council approved the following hires as Rural Transportation drivers, all at a rate of $12 per hour:
Katrina Player – full-time permanent
Candace Cashman – full-time permanent
Phillip Calhoun – part-time temporary as needed
Tacarra Swain – part-time temporary as needed
Classification of Deborah Morris – part-time permanent with no change in rate of pay
Approval was given for payment of invoices in the amount of $112,682.97.
Beginning in Jan. 2026, Council meetings will be held on the first Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m., and on the third Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. The next meeting will be held on Jan. 6 at 6:00 p.m.
