CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – The consolidation of toys, collected by the various rescue squads across Alabama, started on Monday, Dec. 16. By Tuesday afternoon, less than ten feet of the 53-foot trailer is still open, and the Childersburg Rescue Squad reports that they have a 35-foot trailer filled with toys coming on Thursday morning from other rescue squads in the region.
“The response to our plea has been heartwarming. Gerald Wallace stopped by this morning and autographed 15 basketballs for the children. The Alabama Grocers Association donated four tons of oranges and apples. I’m told that the Childersburg High School Cheerleaders raised $1,500, they went shopping for toys, and they will be bringing them,” said Captain Jim Dennis.
Yes, the local rescue squad will be getting yet another truck loaded with toys, accompanied by a number of rescue squad volunteers that will be heading to Mountain City, Tenn. early Friday morning. The distribution to the children is set for Saturday.
“Thank you to all who helped make this Christmas better for the kids in this flood ravaged area,” said Gene Piatkowski of the Childersburg Rescue Squad.
