Woods fire started near Shocco Springs Road now contained

TALLADEGA, Ala. – A woods fire that began last night due to a power pole being knocked down has since been subdued.

The fire started after sustained winds brought on by the inclement weather Wednesday broke a power pole. The fire spread into the night throughout Shocco Springs Rd. for nearly 20 acres.

Multiple fire departments, including Talladega Fire and Rescue, were alerted, and they along with the Alabama Forestry Commission helped stop the spread of the fire.

The high gusts of wind caused a major concern that the fire would not be controllable, but the quick actions of those on hand to fight the fire were immense in handling the situation properly.

As of this morning, most residents on Shocco Springs Road were still without power and expected to continue that way until further notice.
