Woman charged with murder in death of Ashville man

ASHVILLE, Ala. – A 68-year-old Ashville man was found dead on Saturday afternoon, June 20 from an apparent gunshot wound, and a suspect has been charged with murder, according to the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 2:20 p.m. Saturday, St. Clair County 911 received a call reporting a deceased person inside a residence in the 9000 block of Shoal Creek Rd.

Deputies responded to the scene and notified the St. Clair County Criminal Investigation Division. Investigators secured the residence and immediately began an investigation.

The victim was identified as Eddie D. Lee, 68, of Ashville. He was pronounced dead at the scene from an apparent gunshot wound.

During the investigation, authorities identified Tanya Belzer as a suspect in Lee’s death. Belzer was located in Lincoln and interviewed by St. Clair County investigators.

Following the investigation, Belzer was arrested and charged with murder in connection with Lee’s death. She is being held in the St. Clair County Jail on a $1.5 million bond.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. No additional information is being released at this time.
