ALPINE, Ala. – Winterboro senior defensive lineman Kavarris Duncan flipped his college commitment from Tulane to Alabama on Sunday, Sept. 20, choosing to pledge the next step in his football career with the Crimson Tide.
Duncan, a composite three-star prospect and the No. 28-ranked player in Alabama, has emerged as one of Winterboro’s most productive players during the opening stretch of his senior season. His play has also gained attention beyond the field, with Duncan going viral for his versatility on offense as well as his work along the defensive line.
Projected to play defensive line in college, Duncan has also taken snaps at quarterback this season and has thrown multiple touchdown passes during the first half of his senior campaign.
The decision to choose Alabama fulfilled a longtime goal for Duncan. He said playing for the Crimson Tide has always been a dream, and his visit to Alabama last weekend helped make the decision an easy one. Duncan attended Alabama’s game against Florida State during the visit and received an offer from the Crimson Tide before making his commitment known on Sunday.
Duncan entered the season with a long list of college opportunities. Among the programs that have offered him before Alabama are West Alabama, Samford, North Alabama, Connecticut, South Florida, South Alabama, James Madison, Jacksonville State, Georgia Southern, Coastal Carolina, Charlotte, Troy, Southern Miss, Arkansas State, Appalachian State, West Virginia, Tulane, and Georgia State.
Duncan’s versatility is not limited to football.
In track and field, he won the Alabama Class 1A state championship in both the shot put and discus as a junior, adding to an athletic résumé that has made him one of the more versatile prospects in the state.
On the football field in 2025, Duncan earned all-state honors as a junior after recording 64 tackles and five sacks.
Now, Duncan will finish his senior season at Winterboro while preparing for a future with Alabama, the program he has long dreamed of representing.
