[WINTER WEATHER UPDATES] Freeze warnings continue; area info and postponements here


SYLACAUGA, Ala. – is committed to keeping you informed about area closures and other information as winter weather moves through our area.

While most rain has ended, drizzles and a few flurries may be seen in parts of Alabama overnight. Be careful on roadways as black ice could be hazardous.

Remember the Three Ps: pets, pipes, and plants. Ensure they are covered and protected from inclement conditions tonight.

The First Baptist Church in Sylacauga will host a warming center tonight (Monday) and Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. Cots and hot showers will be available. Visitors must supply their own bedding, toiletries, snacks, and drinks. SAFE will provide transportation for people needing to get to the church; call 256-249-9085 for more information.

Tuesday has been designated an E-Learning day for students of Sylacauga High School, Indian Valley Elementary School, Pinecrest Elementary School, and Nichols-Lawson Middle School. Staff members are to report to their schools at 10:00 a.m. Athletic events, including boys and girls basketball games, will continue as scheduled.

Due to predicted road conditions, Republic Services will not run garbage pickup routes in Sylacauga on Tuesday. The company plans to be one day behind starting on Wednesday, finishing on Saturday, and will double up Monday routes.

Opening of Sylacauga’s City Hall and Municipal Complex will be delayed until 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday.

The following Talladega County offices will also delay opening until 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday: Talladega Courthouse, Sylacauga Courthouse, Childersburg Revenue Office, and Oxford Revenue Office. The Judicial Building in Talladega will open as usual and those called for jury duty should report at the assigned time. For additional information regarding the courts, call the Circuit Clerk’s office at 256-761-2102 after 6:45 a.m. on Tuesday.

The Childersburg High School basketball playoff game in Piedmont has been moved from Tuesday to Wednesday.
