SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Sylacauga City Schools and Talladega County Schools will be closed Friday, Jan. 10, due to the threat of severe winter weather and hazardous road conditions.

The closures include all extracurricular activities, such as athletic events and after-school programs.

Residents are urged to stay safe and avoid unnecessary travel as the state braces for potentially dangerous conditions.

This precaution comes amid forecasts of severe winter weather expected to impact the area. Authorities advise staying updated on weather alerts and preparing for icy roads.

Gov. Kay Ivey on Thursday morning, Jan. 9, declared a State of Emergency for 37 Alabama counties which includes Talladega County.
