STEWARTVILLE, Ala. – A Weogufka Volunteer Fire Department pumper truck responding to a mutual aid call for a large brush fire in Stewartville was destroyed and a firefighter injured in a single-vehicle crash earlier this week.

According to the Weogufka, the one person in the vehicle was taken to Coosa Valley Medical Center for evaluation, treated and released. He did not suffer any major life-threatening injuries.

The pumper truck – the department’s only firefighting vehicle – was a total loss, and all equipment on the truck was heavily damaged and has been lost. The department said it is insured, but replacing the truck will take time as it works through the claims process and procures a replacement. In the meantime, the department said it has established a GoFundMe page.
