SYLACAUGA, Ala. – At the Sylacauga City Council meeting held Thursday night, Feb. 22, at 6:00 p.m., councilwoman Tiffany Nix was named the new City Council President after a 3-2 vote.
The vote came after an executive session near the end of the meeting which lasted one hour. Councilman Nate Brewer was also elected as the new President Pro-Tem.
To start the meeting, six public hearings were held to declare different properties as abatements of nuisance. Those properties are:
807 N Main Ave.
805 N Main Ave.
809 N Main Ave.
811 N Main Ave.
100 E 8th St.
108 E 8th St.
The council also set two public hearings for April 2, 2024, to consider rezoning of properties at 691 W 4th St. and 705 W 4th St. from MX-1 to MX-2.
The city council approved Resolution No. 29-2024, TAPPA-TA23 (916) “Proposal,” for Engineering Design Services to streetscape improvement in downtown Sylacauga in the amount of $77,088.
Taylor Pharr was appointed to the Airport Authority Board for the remaining term ending in August 2024. (Wade Pruitt resigned in December 2023.)
Mayor Jim Heigl’s recommendation to approve the Administration and Finance Department’s “Accounting Manager” job description was approved.
The council returned the cash bond posted by Kathy Parrish in the amount of $1,000 for case number MC23-0000815.
The council approved the Fiscal Year 2023 Accounts Payable invoices in the amount of $9,085.60 as well as the Fiscal Year 2024 Accounts Payable invoices in the amount of $558,075.02.
The next Sylacauga City Council meeting is set for Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at 6:00 p.m.
