SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Thursday morning, citizens of Sylacauga celebrated the patriots of the past and present that have fought for our freedoms and liberties.
The 2021 Veterans Day Ceremony, held at Sylacauga’s Legion Stadium, began around 11:00 a.m. with a warm welcome from retired U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. Robert Holmes. The tribute also included an invocation from Pastor Charles Kelly, remarks from Mayor Jim Heigl and U.S. Representative Mike Rogers, and music provided by the U.S. Army band as well as the Sylacauga Community Choir.
The marquee moment came when the 100th Fighter Squadron, affectionately known as the “Red Tail Squadron,” flew over the stadium just as Rep. Rogers took the podium.
Proceeding the ceremony was the annual Veterans Day Parade which routed throughout downtown Sylacauga, starting near the stadium and ended on Norton Ave.
