SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga City Council met Tuesday night, March 7, at 6:00 p.m. with a work session prior at 5:00 p.m.
The city council declared the Verlie Collins Center no longer needed for municipal purposes and authorized its conveyance to the Sylacauga Housing Authority.
A recommendation was accepted from the EEFS Company to award the low bid received for Sylacauga drainage improvements project in the amount of $594,000 to Central Alabama Asphalt and Construction Company, LLC.
The council approved a refund request for overpayment of 2023 business license fees in the amount of $50 from Advanced Integrated Security DBA Wesson Companies.
They also approved the request from Mayor Jim Heigl and HR Specialist Jayne McGee to reimburse PD Officer Harry Brown for dental insurance premiums paid.
Approval was given to the Sylacauga Alliance for Family Enhancement (SAFE) Transportation to declare a 2010 Ford Starcraft 15-passenger van, S/N 1FDEE3FL6ADA90142, as surplus to requirements and to request its disposal through the East Alabama Regional Planning & Development Commission and the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT).
The Sylacauga City Council approved travel and training expenses for Firefighter Donnie Lester to attend the Alabama Fire College Apparatus Operator: Pumper Course hosted by the Anniston Regional Training Center, April 3-7, 2023. No registration fee; additional expenses for meals will be incurred. Total estimated expenses for Lester are $75.
The council approved travel and training expenses for Firefighters Isaac Holmes and Clay Upchurch to attend the Alabama Fire College Fire Investigator I Course hosted by the Anniston Regional Training Center, May 1-5, 2023. Registration fee of $330; additional expenses for meals and use of a city-provided vehicle will be incurred. Employees will carpool. Total estimated expenses for Holmes and Upchurch are $405 each.
Also approved were travel and training expenses for Firefighters Logan Blake and A.J. Tubbs, Lt. Josh Forbus, and Interim Fire Capt. Scott Kines to attend the Alabama Fire College Rescue Technician: Surface Water I and II Courses in Prattville, July 10-12, 2023. Registration fee of $240 per employee; additional expenses for meals and use of a city-provided vehicle will be incurred. Total estimated expenses for Blake, Tubbs, Forbus, and Kines are $285 each.
Additionally, they approved travel and training expenses for Firefighters Logan Blake and A.J. Tubbs, Lt. Josh Forbus, and Interim Fire Capt. Scott Kines to attend the Alabama Fire College Rescue Technician: Swiftwater I and II Courses in Prattville, July 13-14, 2023. Registration fee of $180 per employee; additional expenses for meals and use of a city-provided vehicle will be incurred. Employees will carpool. Total estimated expenses for Blake, Tubbs, Forbus, and Kines are $210 each.
One final approval was granted for travel and training expenses for Court Magistrates Samantha Armstrong and Ginger McDonough to attend the 2023 AOC Regional Seminar for Municipal Court Officials in Birmingham, April 6-7, 2023. Registration fee of $210 each. Additional expenses for mileage and a meal will be incurred. Total estimated expenses for Armstrong are $230; for McDonough are $325.
The council accepted the balance of January Accounts Payable invoices in the amount of $241,182.48.
