[WATCH] Sylacauga City Council holds second meeting of January

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga City Council met Thursday night, Jan. 19, at 6:00 p.m. with a work session prior at 5:00 p.m.

A public hearing took place at the meeting to consider annexation and zoning of four properties as recommended by the Planning Commission. Those were:

303 Rocky Rd.
300 Marble City Heights Circle
10 Oak St.
2485 Old Birmingham Hwy

Another public hearing to consider amendments to Zoning Ordinance #2224A-20 was held. No one present spoke up during the hearings.

The Sylacauga City Council approved the purchase of a 2023 Ford High Roof Transit Van for the transportation program. The authorization requires a local match of $17,390.

The city council set a public hearing date of Feb. 23, 2023, for the rezoning of property at 1321 Coaling Rd.

They also renewed the Grant Agreement for Aging for FY23 with East Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission.

The new Publix had its retail beer and table wine applications approved by the council after a completed police report.

Also approved was Fire Chief Nate Osgood’s request for an authorized agreement with JMCM Consulting to prepare two grant applications for FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters grants. If awarded, a five percent grant-writing fee and five percent local match is required.

Disinfecting services supplied by Aaron’s Cleaning Services for the first and second floors of City Hall, the Faye Hosey Chambers, and the maintenance shop were extended for an additional three months at a monthly fee of $1,170.

The council approved Additional Accounts Payable invoices received for FY22 in the amount of $14,359.15, the balance of December Accounts Payable invoices in the amount of $291,476.99, and the December payroll in the amount of $445,111.96.

The next scheduled meeting of the Sylacauga City Council is set for Tuesday, Feb. 7, at 6:00 p.m.
