[WATCH] Sylacauga City Council holds meeting before Thanksgiving

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga City Council had a meeting on Tuesday night, Nov. 21, at 6:00 p.m. with a work session prior at 5:00 p.m.

At the meeting, a public hearing was held to declare the property at 500 W Spring St. an abatement of nuisance, and after the hearing, the declaration approving the property as a nuisance was confirmed.

The council approved Resolution No. 78-2023 awarding the bid received from MSE Building Company, Inc. in the amount of $329,381.77 for the Walnut Road Bridge replacement. Estimated project total costs are $329,381.77 construction costs with $61,632 estimated construction engineering and inspection (CE&I) costs for a combined projected total cost of $390,743.77. Project expenses paid through grant funding of $250,000 from Rebuild Alabama Act and a local match of $140,743.77. (Resolution 73-2022 during grant funding application estimated total project cost of project at $459,419.)

The council also entered into an engineering agreement for Construction Engineering and Inspection (CE&I) services with Engineering Environmental and Forestry Services Company, PC (EEFS) in the amount of $61,632 for the Walnut Road Bridge Replacement. (Walnut Road Bridge Replacement projected total expenses are to be paid through grant funding of $250,000 from Rebuild Alabama Act and a local match of $140,743.77. CE&I in the amount of $61,632 will be included within total project costs.)

Additionally, they approved the 050 – Retail Beer (Off Premises Only) and 070 – Retail Table Wine (Off Premises Only) application from Angus T. Powell, III, Vice President of Circle K Stores, and Marcella B. Rocha, Assistant Secretary of Circle K Stores, located at 1312 Talladega Hwy.

An administrative error was amended from the Nov. 7, 2023 council meeting agenda to appoint Amy Price to the B.B. Comer Memorial Library Board to the expiring four-year term. New term will be effective through October 2027. (Previously approved for a five-year term.)

The city council approved FY23 Accounts Payable invoices in the amount of $66,936.70 and FY24 Accounts Payable invoices.

The next Sylacauga City Council meeting will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 5, at 6:00 p.m.
