SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga City Council held a meeting on Tuesday night, March 5, following a work session which began at 4:00 p.m.
At the meeting, the city council agreed to sell real estate property located at 562 W 4th St. from the City of Sylacauga to the Talladega/Clay/Randolph Child Care Corp.
The council approved Resolution No. 33-2024 for an extension to vacate until April 29, 2024 of tenancy for William Davis located at 317 W 3rd St.
They also approved Resolution No. 34-2024 awarding the bid received from Johns and Kirksey, Inc. (Tuscaloosa) in the amount of $178,300 for reroofing and waterproofing of Isabel Anderson Comer Museum and Arts Center. (Project expenses paid through capital funding, original projected estimate was $250,000.)
Authorization was granted for an amendment to the increase of cost for apartments using Green For Life (GFL) waste collection services provided in the City of Sylacauga effective Oct. 1, 2023. (Resolution No. 65-2023 originally only increased residential (.96) ninety-six cents.)
Now, the city council authorized a three percent annual consumer price index increase to residential and apartment complexes using GFL waste collection services provided in the City of Sylacauga effective April 1, 2024.
The council approved the refund for garbage fees for resident Jimmy Brown of 33 Hickory Village in the amount of $525.80. (Resident was billed by the Sylacauga Utilities Board since August 2021.)
Mayor Jim Heigl’s request was approved to change current budgeting and all associated records to reflect a name change from Administrative and General to Administration and Finance. (No change to funding; department name change only.)
The city council approved training expenses for Business License Clerk Ericka Doby and City Clerk – Treasurer Alexandra Lambert to attend The University of Alabama Certified Municipal Revenue Officers 300 Level Training course online from Oct. 16-18, 2024. Registration fee is $235 per person. Total estimated expenses for Doby and Lambert are $470.
They approved the Administration and Finance office to apply for the John G. Burton Endowment Scholarship for City Clerk – Treasurer Alexandra Lambert to attend the Municipal Clerks Spring Institute online from April 17-19, 2024. This scholarship would cover the registration fee to attend online in the amount of $265.
Additionally, they approved the Administration and Finance office to apply for the John G. Burton Endowment Scholarship for Business License Clerk Ericka Doby to attend the Alabama Municipal Revenue Officers Association 200 Level Training Institute online from April 10-12, 2024. This scholarship would cover the registration fee to attend online in the amount of $235.
Nicole Brown was appointed to the Nuisance and Abatement Board for District 3 for the remaining term that runs concurrent with council members.
Fire Chief Nate Osgood was granted approval to apply for the Assistance to Firefighter’s Grant for new thermal imaging cameras. (Total price is $4,183.67, if awarded. City match 5% and grant writer fee 5%.)
The council approved Fiscal Year 2024 Accounts Payable invoices in the amount of $122,249.09 and the February payroll in the amount of $527,490.83.
The next Sylacauga City Council meeting is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, March 19, at 6:00 p.m.
