[WATCH] Sylacauga City Council holds first February forum

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga City Council met Tuesday night, Feb. 7, at 6:00 p.m. with a work session prior to the meeting at 5:00 p.m.

At the meeting, Mayor Jim Heigl made two Month of February proclamations.

The first was for Career Technical Education Month. Students and administration representing Sylacauga City Schools (SCS) were present to accept the proclamation.

Also, Mayor Heigl proclaimed at the council meeting that from Feb. 5 through Feb. 11, Sylacauga is recognizing Civitan International Clergy Week.

The Sylacauga City Council approved a resolution setting a date for a public hearing and authorized the publication of a notice for consideration of a development agreement with The Wharf Casual Seafood Sylacauga, LLC. The first available date for the public hearing is Feb. 23, 2023.

Another resolution was approved, amending the contract with Simcut to authorize the watering of up to 18 flower baskets for a period of five months at a cost of $105 per basket per month.

They contracted Southern Electrical Contractors, Inc. to install generators at City Street, Shop and Animal Shelter at the quoted price of $49,452.

The council accepted the recommendation of Street Superintendent Reed Calfee to amend concrete street repair contract with Grout, Inc. to extend project through April 28, 2023.

Additionally, they accepted the recommendation of Mike Whetstone to waive fees for required permits for all in-house work completed by Sylacauga Housing Authority on housing property.

Approval was given for travel and training expenses for Fire Lt. Kyle Moseley to attend the Alabama Fire College Fire Officer III course hosted by the Opelika Regional Training Center, Feb. 13-17, 2023. Registration fee of $265. Additional expenses for meals and use of a city-provided vehicle will be incurred. Total estimated expenses for Moseley are $340.

The city council accepted Accounts Payable invoices received to date for January in the amount of $1,583,293.62 and then went into an executive session with the city’s attorney.

The next Sylacauga City Council meeting is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 6:00 p.m.
