SYLACAUGA, Ala. – At the Sylacauga City Council meeting Tuesday night, Aug. 15, the council entered into an agreement with Williams Blackstock Architects regarding the architectural and engineering services for the proposed new Sylacauga Recreation and Aquatics Center.
Also at the meeting, the city council adopted the FY24 Transportation Plan.
The council reallocated at total of $115,587 from the Building Services Department Nuisance Abatement Expense (010-571-42521-000) to three separate funding ventures, including:
- $75,000 to the E&L Department’s Other Professional Fees (010-511-41580-000) to fund expenses related to Phase 1 “Initial Space Programming/Concept Design Phase” of the Sylacauga Recreation and Aquatics Center by Williams Blackstock Architects.
- $14,520 to the Administrative and Finance Department’s Building Repair and Maintenance (010-512-45001-000) to fund expenses related to replacement of the HVAC system at the South Talladega County ARC’s Sylacauga location.
- $26,067 to the Administrative and Finance Department’s Inventory/Equipment Inventory (010-512-42005-000) to fund expenses related to necessary technology upgrades.
A Memorandum of Understanding was authorized with the Sylacauga Board of Education (BOE) to provide one school resource officer (SRO) for the period of Oct. 1, 2023 through Sept. 30, 2024. City and the BOE will equally share salary and benefits of the officer.
Eight recommendations by Mayor Jim Heigl for changes to job descriptions were approved. Those changes are as follows.
- Street Department’s “Administrative Secretary II” changed to “Administrative Assistant”
- Shop’s “Shop Administrative Clerk I” changed to “Administrative Assistant” (Pay grade changed from AO-3 to AO-6)
- Building Services Department’s “Administrative Secretary I” changed to “Administrative Assistant” (Pay grade changed from AO-5 to AO-6)
- Street Department’s “Construction Worker I” changed to “Construction Worker”
- Street Department’s “Equipment Operator I” changed to “Light Equipment Operator”
- Street Department’s “Equipment Operator II” changed to “Medium Equipment Operator”
- Street Department’s “Equipment Operator III” changed to “Heavy Equipment Operator”
- Administrative and Finance Department’s “Accounting Clerk III” changed to “Accounting Clerk”
The city council approved the balance of July Accounts Payable invoices in the amount of $343,247.70 and the July payroll in the amount of $435,957.62.
The next Sylacauga City Council meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 7, 2023, at 6:00 p.m.
