SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga City Council held its final meeting of November last night at Sylacauga City Hall.
The big story line happened during the work session. Probate Judge Randy Jinks made the recommendation to the council to make the next council term a five year term, and them revert back to four year terms to offset election cycles. In August 2020, seven municipalities will have their elections. Six weeks later, Sylacauga will have its runoff, which leaves the probate office with limited time to re-program election computers, according to Jinks.
“I would never ask any of you to extend your terms. I don’t believe in that,” Jinks stated to the Council. The proposal would not go into action until after the next election. Jinks made it clear members of the council would not be extending their terms.
