SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga City Schools monthly board meeting was headlined by multiple changes in personnel and duties as board members met virtually.
All board members and Supt. Dr. Jon Segars were present for the meeting.
We now know what role new head football coach at Andrew Zow will play outside of the gridiron as he was approved by the board as physical education teacher at SHS beginning June 2.
Six employees’ retirement was approved by the board
- Jayne Barnett, Physical Education Teacher at Nichols-Lawson Middle School, effective June 1, 2020
- Frances Blackmon, Child Nutrition Program Worker at Pinecrest Elementary School, effective June 1, 2020
- Lydia Davis, 2nd Grade Teacher at Indian Valley Elementary School, effective June 1, 2020
- Kenneth Harris, Science Teacher at Sylacauga High School, effective June 1, 2020
- Robby Richardson, Special Education Teacher at Sylacauga High School, effective June 1, 2020
- Elizabeth Roberson, Counselor at Indian Valley Elementary School, effective June 1, 2020
Four resignations were approved:
- Barbara Murphree, Cheerleader Coach at Sylacauga High School, effective May 22, 2020
- Jessica Carmack, Cheerleader Sponsor at Sylacauga High School, effective May 22, 2020
- Angel Butler, Cheerleader Sponsor at Sylacauga High School, effective May 22, 2020
- Bethany Forbus, Second Grade Teacher at Indian Valley Elementary School, effective May 22, 2020
Dr. Segars said cheerleader sponsors resigned from their positions in order to apply for the cheerleader coach position.
