SYLACAUGA, Ala. – After many complaints, Sylacauga Police Department and the Talladega County Drug and Violent Crime Task Force is putting a stop to illegal gambling in Sylacauga.
On Friday, Sylacauga Police Department and the Talladega County Drug and Violent Crime Task Force removed 3 gambling machines from the PIT STOP gas station on 815 W 4th St. and 10 machines from Ronnie’s Produce Stand located at 2 Tuskegee Ave. in Sylacauga. Two additional machines were found at a residence across from the produce stand.
The detail began two days ago when letters were sent to local businesses throughout Talladega County by the Talladega County District Attorney’s Office giving the businesses 48 hours to remove the illegal gaming devices, slot machines, from the county.
The detail began at 10:00 am this morning and continued through the day until the last machine was loaded onto trailers from the produce stand on Alabama Avenue. In all, 15 illegal machines were seized and taken to the task force office in Talladega. No arrests were made today. This was merely a warning to the businesses inside of our city to cease and desist with illegal gaming. SPD does expect future seizures of this kind due to the high return expected from this activity.
