PIEDMONT, Ala. – With the game on the line, the Sylacauga Aggies delivered a stunning finish in their season finale last Friday versus Piedmont to clinch back-to-back wins in dramatic fashion.
The Aggies, trailing at one point 24-10, rallied to tie the contest and send it to overtime with the teams locked, 24-24, at the end of regulation.
Piedmont would score first and kick the extra point, but the Aggies would answer back with a touchdown of their own and make the score 31-30.
Instead of sending the hard-fought battle to a second overtime, Coach Smelley and Sylacauga elected to put the game in their own hands – a decision that would pay off.
The Aggies executed an impressive trick play with a pass by quarterback C.J. Franklin to eligible offensive lineman J.T. Sumner, who was unmarked in the endzone.
