FAYETTEVILLE, Ala. – Volunteers from Lay Lake, Fayetteville, and Marble Valley fire departments responded to a house fire at 50 Vols Ln. in Fayetteville Wednedsay afternoon.

Lay Lake Volunteer Fire Department was the first department on scene but Captain Tim Butler said it had help from a member of the community. “There was a bystander here with a hose pipe,” said Butler. “He kept the fire at bay until the trucks arrived.”

Upon arrival, Butler said the kitchen area was fully engulfed in flames. He said the fire was contained in the kitchen and put out in a matter of minutes before all was lost. Butler said the fire ignited on or near the stove area.

Although fire damage was limited to the kitchen area, smoke and water damage made its way to other parts of the home. No one was inside the home when it went up in flames and there were no injuries.
