SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Tuesday afternoon, the Sylacauga Fire Department responded to a fire at 911 Magnolia Dr. Chief Adam Gardner said the fire started on the side of the house in or near the garage destroying both cars inside and damaging another on the outside.
Patty and Bill Campbell were inside with their family when the fire started. They were having their grandson’s birthday party.
“We don’t know. We were all in the house. We had the whole family over,” said Patty. “Someone went outside and saw the flames. Another guy drove up and was knocking on the door. I guess he saw the flames. It went quick.”
Patty said she could see the flames through the glass door in her bedroom but does not know how it started. She said she quickly grabbed her dog and pictures on the wall.
“I threw a pile of pictures out. That’s all I could think about was stuff I could not replace. I was hysterical,” said Patty.
Chief Gardner told SylacaugaNews.com the fire started around the garage area and spread throughout the rest of the house resulting in both fire and smoke damage. When first responders arrived, everyone was out of the house safely. Gardner said the cause of the fire is still unknown.
“Considering where it started, it could take a day or two to figure out where it started,” said Gardner.
