SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Officer Chris Wykoff, a 21-year veteran of the Sylacauga Police Department (SPD), was struck by a 58-year-old female driving a 2000 Dodge Durango while on duty as the Pinecrest Elementary School crossing guard on Thursday morning, Feb. 1.

The driver was dropping off children at the school when the accident occurred.

Officer Wykoff sustained minor injuries and was swiftly transported to Coosa Valley Medical Center by the Sylacauga Ambulance Service. Following prompt medical attention, he was released from CVMC.

In response to the incident, the SPD and the Sylacauga Board of Education will collaborate to explore measures aimed at enhancing the safety of dropping off and picking up students, not only at Pinecrest Elementary School but across various school zones in the city.
