SYLACAUGA, Ala. – After most businesses re-opened in the area last Friday, shoppers are already starting to flood the stores.
In some stores changes have been made to preserve the safety of customers amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We have been busy and I think that is due to not everywhere being opened quite yet,” said Buttons and Bows owner Tammy Gardner. “Most items, such as the dresses, have been marked down since we missed graduation and Easter, and we have been putting some items outside the store to keep some shoppers inside the store and some shoppers out.”
According to Executive Director at the Sylacauga Chamber of Commerce Laura Strickland, the percentage of stores open are still the same, but the few that did not open this past Friday should open up at some point this week.
“We have just been amazed at how well the customers have responded to us being open,” said Magnolias Owner Linda Hardy. “It is kind of like everyone was just waiting to get outside of their house, and we are really excited about this good transition.”
“Things have gone very positively since Friday,” said Strickland. “I spoke with business owners on Monday, and they all had very successful weekends, so the response from the community was very encouraging.”
