SYLACAUGA, Ala. – A Sylacauga man was arrested on Friday, Oct. 3 after authorities say an ongoing narcotics investigation led to the discovery of several ounces of cocaine.
According to the Talladega County Drug and Violent Crime Task Force, 53-year-old JC Crawford faces charges of cocaine trafficking and possession of drug paraphernalia. Details regarding his bond were not immediately released.
Task Force investigators had been monitoring Crawford for an extended period before following him to Atlanta. On the return trip to Sylacauga, officers conducted a traffic stop for a routine violation. A search of the vehicle uncovered multiple ounces of cocaine, well above the one-ounce threshold required for a trafficking charge in Alabama.
A subsequent search of Crawford’s home revealed additional cocaine and drug-related items.
While Crawford allegedly crossed state lines during his activities, he currently faces only state charges.
Under Alabama law, cocaine trafficking is classified as a Class A felony, carrying a potential sentence of 10 to 99 years or life in prison upon conviction.
