SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Two local individuals enjoyed milestone birthday achievements in Sylacauga over the past few days.
Mrs. Hazel Hurst hit the century mark on Saturday, Jan. 22. Hurst is a resident at Coosa Valley Nursing Home (CVNM), and even at 100 she can be the life of the party.
Hurst is described as “sweet and feisty at the same time,” and her favorite snack items include Baby Ruth candy bars and Pringle chips. Her most-cherished drink of choice is Dr. Pepper. Hurst was a very active member of Bon Air Baptist Church before moving to CVNM.
Mr. Ray McDiarmid turned 85 on Tuesday, Jan. 25. Well-known throughout the community as the longtime owner of Dixie Drug Company, McDiarmid is a walking encyclopedia of all things Sylacauga.
A registered pharmacist in Alabama for over 60 years, McDiarmid has made many memories with the Sylacauga community that would come to his drug store located in close proximity to both Sylacauga High School and the Parks and Recreation center.
Congratulations to both Mrs. Hurst and Mr. McDiarmid on their special birthdays!
