Twelve-year old Cal Ripken district baseball tournament held in Childersburg over weekend

SHARE NOW

CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – Last Thursday through Saturday, five twelve-year old Cal Ripken all-star baseball teams took the field at the Childersburg City Baseball Complex to see which team would hoist the trophy as District 3 Champions.

Childersburg, Lineville, Roanoke, Wedowee, and Talladega all played and competed hard, and fans from all over came to witness which team would represent District 3 at the Cal Ripken State Tournament starting on Friday, June 30.

Play started on Thursday evening as the Childersburg Parks and Recreation Department used two fields to execute the double elimination-style tournament with one team eliminated on the first night.

Concessions were available, and crowds were great. In the second round on the first night, a small lightning and rain storm halted play for about 45 minutes before finishing late on opening night.

On Friday, however, dealing with the weather while trying to play baseball did not go so well. Vicious lightning and continuous rain forced play to be cancelled for Friday and pushed more play to Saturday.

Nevertheless, sunshine prevailed on Saturday as play resumed at 10:00 a.m. that morning. Here is how the bracket played out for the District 3 Cal Ripken Twelve-Year Old Tournament:

Game 1: Childersburg defeated Wedowee, 3-2
Game 2: Roanoke defeated Talladega, 14-0
Game 3: Lineville defeated Childersburg, 10-0
Game 4: Wedowee defeated Talladega, 15-12
Game 5: Lineville defeated Roanoke, 11-7
Game 6: Childersburg defeated Wedowee, 5-4
Game 7: Childersburg defeated Roanoke, 4-3
Game 8: Lineville defeated Childersburg, 4-1 (Finals)
