SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga community is mourning the loss of one of its residents following a fatal wreck that included a motorcycle at the intersection of Old Birmingham Hwy and James Payton Blvd. on Monday, July 24.
The incident occurred around 12:40 p.m. when a 2021 Harley Davidson motorcycle, operated by 49-year-old Michael Lynn Rice, of Sylacauga, collided with a 2006 Ford F150 at the intersection.
Despite immediate medical assistance, Rice succumbed to his injuries the following afternoon, July 25, at 2:30 PM after being transported to UAB Hospital via LifeSaver.
The driver of the Ford F150 is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
The Sylacauga Police Department extends heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Rice during this difficult time, and the department would also like to further emphasize the importance of road safety for all motorists.
