HomeLocalThree Sylacauga firefighters graduate from Alabama Fire College’s recruit schoolThree Sylacauga firefighters graduate from Alabama Fire College’s recruit schoolFri, June 17, 2022 by Michael GiddensSHARE NOW MOUNTAIN BROOK, Ala. – After completing the required standards, three Sylacaugians are now officially-certified Alabama firefighters.Andrew McClain, Donnie Lester, and Shelby Byrd successfully made it through 400 hours of training approved by the Alabama Fire College and the National Fire Protection Association.The recruit school, hosted by the Mountain Brook Fire Department, aims to properly prepare aspiring firefighters to handle any and all duties they may face in the line of service.McClain, Lester, and Byrd graduated last Friday, June 10, after having trained for the last eight months.Prior to attending recruit school, the trio had already helped within their qualified right at the Sylacauga Fire Department according to Fire Chief Nate Osgood.“While they are now certified to be career firefighters, this is just the first step in their fire service careers,” said Osgood. “They will continue learning and training for the full spectrum of emergencies and hazards to which we respond. We are excited to have these Firefighters back on shift, and look forward to the future as the Sylacauga Fire Department continues to grow.”
