OAK GROVE, Ala. – The Oak Grove Town Council heard a report that arrangements for this weekend’s annual Fall Festival are complete, including a great music line-up and the first-ever sold out vendor line-up.

Councilman David Harris said of the event, “We’re expecting a lot of people and hope you’ll come out and enjoy the hard work put into the event.”

Harris had words of praise for Jo Silla, a new addition to the festival preparation team, saying, “Every question anyone had during meetings, she was there with the answers.”

The event budget is right at the break even point, but the Council approved an extra $1,000 just in case anything unexpected comes up.

It was also approved for a transportation bus to pick up and return elderly Oak Grove residents for the event. The Festival is scheduled for this Saturday, Oct. 12 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The Tuesday, Oct. 8 meeting opened with a swearing-in ceremony for the new Chief of the Oak Grove VFD. The Council approved Noah Wimmer and Michael Blackmon as new volunteer firefighters. An emergency expense of $6.835.57 was approved for repairs to Department Response Truck #2351.

Approval was given to pay expenses of $2,968 for two to attend the Municipal Clerk Annual Conference. Mayor Tony White noted that election procedures will be a focus of the event.

After discussion of the available options from quotes, the Town Council approved Reliable Sign Services to install an Impact Digital Sign message board on the front of Town Hall. The cost for the 4×6 foot sign with high resolution 6mm LED graphics will cost $17,394 for all but electrical connection.

Mayor Tony White and Sewer Board member Frank Young discussed the outcome of a meeting with the Sylacauga Utilities Board. The SUB agreed to cut the town’s bill in half via a credit. Since reflow from storm drainage was suspected to be the issue involved, the Utilities Board will monitor flow hourly on rainy days and twice per day under dry conditions.

Mayor White also noted that the Town and the SUB have been operating without a contract since 2010.

“We’re working on the details of a new contract, and I hope to be able to report on a draft to the Council soon,” said Mayor White.

The next regular meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 12.
