SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Place on Broadway is not only an event venue, its a venue designed to help other local businesses succeed.
So much excitement surrounded Friday’s grand-opening of Sylacauga’s new event space that you would not know how uneasy the last few months may have been for owner Kimm Wright. Her plans and dreams were almost derailed by a global pandemic. Two months ago Wright had no clue when the venue would be able to open, but now The Place is open – and its stunning.
“This is something I’ve always wanted to do. It has been a long time coming, but the virus allowed us to step back, focus, and figure out how to do this right,” Wright explained.
Other local businesses, especially caterers, flower shops and hospitality services, should be excited because of the business model. The Place is the clients space to do what they please. The Place will not cater, provide flowers or offer other services. It is designed to leave those duties to other service providers.
“Our business plan is to designed to support other local businesses. I’m not going to cater. I’m not providing Flowers. I’m letting other people do that,” Wright said. “We have so many good businesses in Sylacauga, so we are partnering with them to bring it all together.”
The Place‘s location could not be better, according to Wright. She is thrilled to be on the first block of historic downtown Sylacauga.
“I’ve been eyeballing this building for a while, so its amazing this is actually where we’re at,” she said.
“Small business s the heartbeat of america. We are so excited about the vision and energy our community entrepreneurs show,” said Sylacauga Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Laura Strickland. “Kimm and Nathan Wright are examples of entrepreneurship in our community.” “The first time I stepped in this building I said, ‘This would be a great place for an event venue’.”
