SYLACAUGA, Ala. – For the last few years, David Pursell has been dreaming of an addition to the family property. That dream is about to become a reality.
“It’s been a long haul,” said David, the CEO of Pursell Farms. A brand new 40-room inn along with two restaurants are set to open in just a matter of days.
“I think we’ve done a really, really nice job with it,” said David. Portions of the the new luxury hotel complex were transformed from former office space. David’s office, which used to be in the main part of the building, is now Old Tom’s Pub. “We had to completely repurpose this building to make it functional in a resort setting.”
Beneath Old Tom’s Pub is Arrington Place, a new fine-dining restaurant, along with a 4,000 sq. ft. commercial kitchen.
“Job rolls here are increasing,” he said. David said between 50-60 new employees will work at The Inn.
“It’s a huge impact for south Talladega Co. It’s pretty fun to meet them and know they’re working in the community,” he said. The 58-year-old said senior management is being very selective as to who will work on property stating he wants to “lead the resort world in quality of service and hospitality.”
SylacaugaNews.com visited The Inn, which overlooks on the 18th hole, on Thursday. Construction workers and maintenance crews were putting final touches on the property.

“My father [Jimmy] accuses me of being too much of a wild-eyed dreamer, and I do tend to look over the horizon,” according to David. He said after The Inn gets off to a successful start, he can see another course added along with more accommodations. “It’s a perfect place for us to expand,” he added, explaining more jobs would follow.
“We are so excited to be here in this part of the county and certainly part of the state of Alabama. It’s certainly a hidden gem.”
