The 2025 Kymulga Grits Festival overcomes inclement weather threat for a successful fundraising event

SHARE NOW

CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – Heavy rain leading up to the 2025 Grits Festival at the historic Kymulga Grist Mill Park in Childersburg slowed preparations this past Saturday, May 17. The weather scared off a handful of vendors, but the skies parted and made way for an outstanding day for both organizers and visitors alike.

The threat of rain and a bogus social media post earlier in the week announcing that the event was being cancelled did not help, but a crowd of nearly 1,600 still enjoyed the traditional shrimp n’ grits and other available foods from Grist Mill volunteers.

There were a few empty spots but more than three dozen crowd-pleasing vendors lined the path from past the silo, well into the camping area.

All in all, it was a successful fund raiser for the property that boasts a pair of attractions on the National Historic Registry – the Grist Mill itself, as well as the Covered Bridge.
