CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – TCB Package, at 9th Ave. SW in downtown Childersburg, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Greater Coosa Valley Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, Feb. 13, with an open house from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Owner Walter Blackmon explained the name, saying, “It’s my bother’s initials, and his favorite saying revolved around ‘taking care of business.’ It seemed like a fitting tribute to pick that as a name.”
The store will be open from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. seven days a week.
Walter and his wife Laura say it’s a great way to spend a busy retirement that also includes his taxidermy and the couple’s shared love of fishing.
“I like to think that the package store will help me support my taxidermy habit,” said Blackmon with a smile. He is awaiting transfer of his taxidermy permit to be moved to this location.
“There’s a lot more paperwork and regulation than most realize, even though I specialize in only water foul.”
He’ll be adding that service in the coming months. In the meantime, the couple is highlighting the “convenience” of the package store.
“Most customers mention not having to get onto Hwy 280 as their primary attraction to TCB,” said Laura.
The store will feature weekly specials year-round, and they’ll have monthly drawings, with even more during the late year holiday season.
You can’t miss the place just off 1st St. in downtown Childersburg. The name you see in the ribbon-cutting photo is emblazoned across the side of the building facing downtown traffic along Hwy 76.
