ALPINE, Ala. – The Talladega County Small Schools basketball tournament came to a close last night and crowned two champions.
First, the Winterboro Lady Bulldogs created an early lead and never looked back as they defeated the Childersburg Lady Tigers 61-42 to become champions.
Kaitlyn Jones and Kaitlyn Brown led the way for Coach Lamonyn Burnin, and those ladies earned defensive and offensive MVP awards for the Lady Bulldogs. They now await the Large Schools girls’ champion for the Super Championship on Saturday.
The Childersburg boys continued their winning ways by dismantling the B.B. Comer Tigers by a score of 79-42.
What was a competitive game at halftime turned into a blowout in the second half and Coach Johnny Johnson’s cats captured a championship.
Senior Isaac Marbury garnered defensive MVP honors (on right in picture), while Ja’Kaleb Stone earned offensive MVP and overall tournament MVP awards (on left) and Sharrod Robertson (middle) holds the first place trophy. The Tigers are now 15-2 and will get the Large Schools boys’ title winner on Saturday night in the Super Championship.
Tonight’s action at Winterboro High School features the Large Schools final matchups.
