CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – The Childersburg City Council approved Resolution 2025-16, which confirms the Talladega County Road Department’s agreement to assume maintenance of Kimberly Rd. from the Center Point Acres community to Merkel Mountain.
Resolution 2025-15 rescinds Resolution 2025-14, which means that the City will proceed with Park Dale Dr. property abatements in accordance with Ordinance 1136.
A pair of ABC requests were approved. ABC off-premise Retail Beer and Wine licenses will transfer to Center Hill Food Mart at 37121 US Hwy 280. The council also approved an 010-Lounge Retail Liquor, Class 1 license for Argyll Brewery, Inc (The Nevermore Trade Name) at 13 8th Ave. SW downtown.
The council approved Corey Williams being hired as a part-time permanent Parks and Recreation Director’s Assistant at a rate of $719.23 bi-weekly.
The City of Childersburg will again be a sponsor with the Tiger Sports Network with an approval to advertise in the amount of $1,800. The Council also approved a $300 advertising package with Childersburg High Wrestling. Both will be paid from Fund 23.
The Childersburg Police Department will be getting a Narcotics Detection K-9 after the council approved the donation of “Arp” from Central Alabama Police K-9s. Lt. Brandon Hughes was approved to attend Narcotics Detection K-9 handler school through the donating agency in the amount of $6,000 from Fund 13.
Another furniture delivery came in from the Department of Corrections Industries, and the council approved several items for the new Police/Judicial Building. Purchase of a key fob and gate access control system was approved through Elite Home Theater at a cost of $23,576.07 from Fund 25.
Southern Heritage Fence was approved to install three slide gate systems at the Police/Judicial Building at a cost of $12,500.
Cutting Edge will perform landscaping at the new law facility in the amount of $12,850 from Fund 25. The City will maintain that landscaping after the initial work is done.
Laura Jo Hill was approved as a part-time temporary Library Clerk at a pay rate of $8.50 per hour.
Invoices were approved for payment in the amount of $491,935.93, which includes a $198,000, twice a year bond payment.
Mayor Ken Wesson reported that Winterboro High School has requested that their football program be allowed to use the old John Cox Stadium for their 2025 home games, following tornado damage at Bulldog Stadium in Winterboro.
Wesson also reported that he talked with the Birmingham Post Office and arranged an on-site visit to look for a solution to a dispute over addresses and mail delivery in the new College Park residential development. Residents have expressed their strong desire to go back to their original addresses assigned by E-911 due to numerous missed and late deliveries.
The next regular meeting of the Childersburg City Council is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 5. Again, the hope is that the meeting will be held in the new Municipal Court chamber on Hwy 280.
