SYLACAUGA, Ala. – A large crowd gathered to celebrate the 36-year career of Calvin Miller as Director of Industrial Development in Talladega County.

City, county, and state entities presented Miller with proclamations, plaques, and other acknowledgments recognizing his long-standing efforts to expand the county’s employment base as he retired following a 36-year career in Talladega County.

Judge Julian King, the last remaining member of the committee that interviewed candidates for the position when it became vacant, reflected on the hiring process.

“Calvin Miller immediately stood out in that process,” King said. “His success in Selma and Dallas County indicated to us that he was the person we needed to raise the level of industry in Talladega County. Looking back at that challenge decades later, his success here tells me that we made the right call.”

Miller thanked those gathered to honor him and his career.

“Thank you all for being here, as well as for your support over the years of my work with the Talladega County Economic Development Authority,” Miller said.

Miller’s successor as Executive Director, Brian Crichton, has worked in the Sylacauga office for the past several months during the transition.

“Calvin has been quite welcoming and supportive,” Crichton said.
