TALLADEGA, Ala. – The Talladega County Republican Party (DEGAGOP) has announced the election of Chairman Sondra Epperson, Vice-Chairman Laura Barlow Heath, and DEGAGOP member Rachel Wallace as Alternate Delegates for the 2024 Republican National Convention.

The Alabama Republican Party (ALGOP) State Executive Committee elected them on May 4.

The convention was held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin from July 15-18, drawing over 50,000 guests and 2,400 delegates and alternates. Epperson and Heath were elected as Statewide At-Large Alternate Delegates, while Wallace was chosen as an Alternate Delegate for Congressional District 3. All were elected by acclamation.

Alabama was represented by 50 delegates and 50 alternate delegates at the convention. These include ALGOP’s three RNC members, 26 Statewide At-Large Delegates, and 21 Delegates allocated by Congressional District. Each delegate will have an alternate.

Talladega County’s Republican Party notably contributed two Statewide At-Large Alternate Delegates and one Congressional District Alternate Delegate.

Epperson, in her second term as chairman, holds the County Chairman position on the ALGOP State Executive Committee and serves on several pivotal DEGAGOP committees. She is actively involved in local, state, and federal politics, advocating for local legislation and participating in various Republican organizations.

Epperson also serves as Chairman of the Advisory Board and Special Projects at Dovetail Landing, supporting military veterans and first responders. She volunteers as the Talladega County-Wide Coordinator for the Anti-Litter Campaign and is an advocate for several health-related causes.

Vice-Chairman Laura Barlow Heath has held leadership roles for DEGAGOP, including Director of Communications and Administrative Secretary. She serves on the Executive and Steering Committees and was elected to Seat 2 on the ALGOP State Executive Committee.

Heath’s community service extends to her first term on the Sylacauga City Council, where she has served as City Council President and Mayor Pro Tempore. She is involved with the Sylacauga Fire Department, Municipal Court, Animal Shelter, and various local organizations.

Rachel Wallace, a member of the Talladega County Republican Party, was elected to Seat 1 on the ALGOP State Executive Committee.

She works as a Caseworker for Congressman Mike Rogers in Alabama’s Congressional District 3 and is pursuing a Ph.D. in Public Policy at Liberty University. Wallace is dedicated to promoting political engagement and social policy.

“DEGAGOP represents the Community Voices, Conservative Values, and a Comprehensive Vision across Talladega County,” Epperson said. “We are a people of faith, family, and freedom in a land of opportunity.”

Epperson noted their collective mission to nominate Donald J. Trump for president and uphold conservative Republican values through grassroots initiatives and voter education.

“I am enthusiastic about representing Talladega County Republicans as an Alternate Delegate,” Epperson remarked. “With 105 days until November 5, there’s much work ahead.”
