Sylacauga’s William Copeland crowned ‘Coach of the Year’ in Alabama by USA TODAY

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Sylacauga High School Basketball accolades continue to accumulate after SHS won its first basketball championship since 1988.

On Monday, USA TODAY named Sylacauga’s head basketball coach, William Copeland, Coach of the Year for the state of Alabama. His team defeated Eufaula in the Class 5A state title game at the BJCC in Birmingham by a score of 79-78 in overtime.

Copeland also took his Aggies to the Final Four in Birmingham in 2017 before losing to the eventual state champions from Mae Jemison High School.

“This all all a testament to and a blessing from God to be here and have great assistant coaches and players,” Copeland told “This has nothing to do with me, but its more about the people surrounding me. This wouldn’t have been possible without them.”
