SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Florida State University Women’s basketball team is off to a hot start this season and former Sylacauga High School star Shakayla Thomas is a big reason why the Seminoles are ranked nationally in the top ten.
On Monday, the junior recorded 12 points, and helped Florida State extend its current win streak to ten games with a 95-39 victory over North Florida. The 56-point win is the eighth-largest in school history and marks the second straight year FSU defeated the Ospreys by more than 50. Florida State won last year’s match-up by 52.
Thomas’ 12 points in Monday’s win marked her sixty-first career game in Tallahassee with at least 10 points, making her the active team leader in that category. Thomas has posted double digit points in 10 of the 12 games the Noles have played this season, including four straight.
With the win, the Seminoles moved to 11-1 on the season with their only loss by a mere two points to #1 Connecticut, 78-76 in the second game of the year.
Thomas will look to extend her scoring streak tonight as the Noles head to Macon, GA to take on Mercer. The game is available on ESPN3 and is set to tip-off at 6:00 p.m. local time.
